Goat Kidding 2009- Part 2

The second kidding of the year went beautifully.  The momma, Kyra, usually has a hard time, but luckily we were there and helped out a little and everything went well.  She had two beautiful little baby does on Saturday, April 18th.

It's hilarious.  She's kind-of a scrub, but she always raises these kids that almost shine they're so amazing.  :)   Aren't they darling?

This is Nellie

And this is Rosie.

What a cutie pie!

So now we have two batches of kids in the barn.
Stay tuned for round three. . . .

Goat Kidding 2009- Part 1

FINALLY!
Baby goats around this place have finally decided to honor us with their presence.  Since this first batch was six days late, we were all in great anticipation.

Maggie, our leader of the pack, had kids on Thursday, April 16th, at about 8:10 p.m.  First came a beautiful little girl which we decided to call Jenny, because when she was born she looked exactly like a donkey.  Gray face, white muzzle, white around the eyes.  She was SOOO cute.

Second came a little boy which we called Jack, just because a girl donkey is called a Jenny and a boy one is a Jack- so there we were.  Jack has the cutest pick nose- which is rare in goats.  They are hilarious.  They run around, butting heads and jumping up in the air, doing little twirly things.  And both of them are very friendly.

(Maggie, Jenny, and Jack left to right)
Well- so far so good.
Stay tuned for round two.

Not so fantastic Mr. Skunk???? Part 2

Well- the tragic end to the story.
A few minutes after I published the last post. . .
Chestnut shot the skunk.  So much for my feelings of it being cute.
(Don't worry. . . the skunk is still alive in this picture)
And now the house stinks like none other and most people refuse to even get anywhere near us.  If you want solitude, I guess, kill a skunk.
Ugh.

Very Unfantastic Mr. SKUNK??? Part 1

Don't worry.  This is in between sessions of General Conference that this happened and that I'm posting this.  :)

Let's see how this all started. . . Once Upon a Time. . . .
My mom sent me and Chestnut out to see if the now vacant side of the chicken coop (due to the demise of the Banties) would work for a new home for the very quickly growing chicks who are out of space (and getting uglier all the time).  A pretty innocent start to a story, right???

Well- Not so much.  I guess obeying your father and mother had a pretty good effect, because while I was in the chicks side making absolutely SURE that they needed more space (avoiding work at all costs :) ), Chestnut found this:

Obviously NOT a fox.  But the culprit, nonetheless.  We set the trap almost a week ago when the Banties were killed.  And only today was the criminal lets say "arrested."

I think it's kind-of cute, but I had better not say that, because at the moment the family is planning an untimely demise for it any time now.

And here is Macavity, about to go in by the skunk.  UGGHHH.  I don't want a cat that smells that way.  :(

Stay tuned for part 2 of the saga Monday. . . .
