More and More and MORE!

We have about a zillion and a half kittens back in our barn right now.  I think the last time I counted it was like eighteen.  We really need to get rid of all of them, but for now they're really cute.  Here are a few pictures of the latest batches.

And hey- if you want a cat- contact me!  If not, I understand.  I don't want them either at the moment.  WAY too many.

Put a Name on That Picture

The expression on Topaz's face is cracking me up. What would you call this picture?

Macavity

Chestnut named Macavity right after she showed up.  She is the only cat I've ever seen who was able to get out of a window well.  Somehow she climbs up the tiny ridges on the edge of the hole.  Due to that, he named her after a poem.

Macavity: The Mystery Cat

Macavity's a Mystery Cat: He's called the Hidden Paw-
For he's the master criminal who can defy the Law.
He's the bafflement of Scotland Yard, the Flying Squad's despair:
For when they reach the scene of crime- Macavity's not there!

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,
He's broken every human law, he breaks the law of gravity.
His powers of levitation would make a fakir stare,
And when you reach the scene of crime- Macavity's not there!
You may seek him in the basement, you may look up in the air-
But I tell you once and once again, Macavity's not there!

Macavity's a ginger cat, he's very tall and thin;
You would know him if you saw him, for his eyes are sunken in.
His brow is deeply lined with thought, his head is highly domed;
His coat is dusty from neglect, his whiskers are uncombed.
He sways his head from side to side, with movements like a snake;
And when you think he's half asleep, he's always wide awake.

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,
For he's a fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity.
You may meet him in a by-street, you may see him in the square-
But when a crime's discovered, then Macavity's not there!

He's outwardly respectable. (They say he cheats at cards.)
And his footprints are not found in any file of Scotland Yard's.
And when the larder's looted, or the jewel-case is rifled,
Or when the milk is missing, or another Peke's been stifled,
Or the greenhouse glass is broken, and the trellis past repair-
Ay, there's the wonder of the thing! Macavity's not there!

And when the Foreign Office find a Treaty's gone astray,
Or the Admiralty lose some plans and drawings by the way,
There may be a scrap of paper in the hall or on the stair-
But it's useless to investigate- Macavity's not there!
And when the loss has been disclosed, the Secret Service say:

"It must have been Macavity!"- But he's a mile away.
You'll be sure to find him resting, or a-licking of his thumbs,
Or engaged in doing complicated long division sums.

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,
There never was a Cat of such deceitfulness and suavity.
He always has an alibi, and one or two to spare:
At whatever time the deed took place- MACAVITY WASN'T THERE!

And they say that all the cats whose wicked deeds are widely known
(I might mention Mongojerrie, I might mention Griddlebone)
Are nothing more than agents for the Cat who all the time
Just controls thheir operations: the Napoleon of Crime!

Two Paths Cross. . .

This morning we found the story of Cat V.S. Mouse written out in the snow.  You can't get it any clearer than that!  :)

He Finally Has a Name!

I'm sorry for the inconvenience with the voting and everything- but today in the barn I came up for the perfect name for the new cat.  "Dark Knight."  I haven't seen the movie, but he was too shiny of a black to name Soot, and my little brother just came up with the name without thinking of the movie!  So. . . . It works.  Thanks for all of the suggestions, though!

Why Do the Good Die Young?

Yesterday was complete turmoil.  I went out to do the goats and one of my cats was lying, dead, by the hay stack.  It was horrible.  This cat was the one Welfare Cat that got off of welfare early, he was the only friendly stray that I've ever owned.  His name was MacGyver.  It seems like it's just the good cats that you can't keep for very long.  We think that he died of some sickness- but he had been eating well and there didn't seem to be anything wrong with him after he was dead.  It's a mystery.  The kind of mystery that I don't like to participate in.

How Do They Manage It?

Cats always seem to find the peak of relaxation wherever they are. . . whenever they have the time.

In a doorway while we're washing sheep. . .
On their stand during feeding time. . .
And in the cool grass during the middle of a summer day.

 I wish I could do that. . .

Name Suggestions. . . Please?

Okay- around a week ago we found a cat that had fallen into our window well.  He is the cutest thing- but I can't think of a name for him!  It's a boy.  If you could be so kind as to give me a name suggestion in the form of a comment I would love it!  Thanks.
