In these last few weeks, somehow the rabbit has gone from this. . .
To this. . .
To this.
No clue how the turn of events took this direction. One day "Alec" was Corn Nut's Christmas present, then he was a mild-mannered fat rabbit that we put on the lawn occasionally, now. . .He is the neighborhood menace.
A few weeks ago my mom decided that she was putting the rabbit in the chicken coop to hang with the chickens and bring an end to the drudgery of living in a tiny cage all of his life. A few days after that, he escaped and disappeared- we thought for good.
Then he decided to come back and live at the neighbor's house during the day and in our chicken coop at night. After about a week of doing so, he stopped coming back to our house, so we thought he'd disappeared-
Until 3 days ago.
The neighbor dad came over to our house and informed us that his wife was very distraught because the rabbit had scratched one of their baby kittens to death. They were on the warpath against the little menace to society. They were chasing the extremely wild rabbit all over the place with a fish net, trying to capture it so that they didn't have to guard the cats with their lives.
Personally, I think the 'rabbit killed the cat' thing is a little backwards in the food chain.
Yesterday as we were doing ditches my mom called out to the neighbor boy (with the net) that the rabbit was right by the chicken coop. Pretty soon (with our help) we had Alec herded into a small room of the chicken coop and were chasing him all over the place. Pretty soon we had him caught.
When we put him back in his cage we realized that one of his eyes was all red and swollen shut- so I guess he did get in a fight with the momma cat.
